AI vehicle inspection for Shopmonkey
RapidEye reads the photos and video on every Shopmonkey inspection item, from check-in through check-out, and returns a finding for each thing it sees on the vehicle.
What a Shopmonkey inspection item holdsOverview
A Shopmonkey inspection is a checklist that carries pictures, and the pictures outlive the checklist. A technician runs a template on a work order, marks each item, attaches photos and video, and the customer gets a link with the findings on it. Once the job is invoiced the checklist has done its job, and the images sit against the vehicle with nobody left to look at them. RapidEye reads those images: the inspection items and their media, the vehicle, the work order and the date, and returns a finding for each thing on the vehicle it can see, whether or not a technician was looking at that part.
How it works with Shopmonkey
Shopmonkey lets a shop build its own inspection templates, so the useful thing is to follow the moments a shop actually runs one. What follows is not the limit of it: RapidEye reads whatever a team already captures, still photos, a walkaround video, a technician's phone clip that never made it into a template, and reports against whatever standard you want held. If your shop documents a vehicle in a way that is not on this list, that is a conversation, not a no.
- The check-in inspection. Bumper corners, wheel faces, the windshield, the interior. RapidEye reads the arrival set and describes the vehicle as it came in, which is the version of events that matters two weeks later.
- Multipoint inspections mid-job. Brake surfaces, belts, a weeping hose, corrosion on a battery terminal. The finding names the area, the kind of condition, how bad it looks and the frame it came from, so a service writer building the estimate has something to check their own read against.
- What is in the frame but not on the checklist. A technician photographing a control arm also photographs the floor pan behind it. RapidEye reads the whole image, so the thing nobody was looking for still gets seen.
- The check-out set. A read on the finished vehicle catches the door edge, the wheel scrape, the greasy print on a headliner, while the car is still on your side of the counter.
- Pre-purchase and fleet inspections. The same template run on twenty vehicles gives twenty inconsistent write-ups, because it is twenty different people's judgement. Read from the photos, it is one standard applied twenty times.
A finding carries the vehicle, the work order, the area of the vehicle, the type of condition, a severity, the image or video frame behind it and a suggested next step. It arrives in the RapidEye dashboard, and can be echoed to Slack or an inbox. Nothing is written back into Shopmonkey: your service writer decides what turns into a recommendation. A check of your own, an unusual template, a video format your technicians already shoot, all of that is something we set up with you.
How to connect Shopmonkey to RapidEye
- A Shopmonkey account with the inspection templates your shop already runs, whether that is a check-in, a multipoint or a pre-purchase inspection. You choose which templates are read at all.
- The inspection media you already capture. Photos and video attached to inspection items in the Shopmonkey for Techs app. Where an item is passed with no image, a RapidEye capture link opens on any phone, no app to install, and adds a fixed set of angles of the vehicle.
- Add RapidEye as a user. Settings, then Users, then Add New User, with the role you choose. Your technicians keep the same templates and the same app.
What a Shopmonkey inspection item holds
Checked against Shopmonkey's help centre, September 2026.
Shopmonkey is cloud shop management software for repair, tire, fleet and specialty shops, and its inspections are checklists attached to the order rather than a separate product. According to Shopmonkey's help centre documentation (shopmonkey.io), an inspection is created from the Inspections tab inside an estimate, either new or from one of your templates, and a shop is expected to use them as standard check-in and check-out inspections so a customer's vehicle is documented on both entry and exit. A technician on the mobile app opens the work order, selects Start on the inspection, and works item by item. Each item is a small record of its own.
The four statuses are the spine of the whole thing, and they decide what gets photographed.
Attention and Failed pull a technician toward a photo, because those are the items a customer has to be convinced of. Passed and N/A usually travel with nothing attached, which is reasonable in the bay and awkward later: the parts of the vehicle nobody documented are exactly the parts a dispute lands on.
Does Shopmonkey keep inspection photos with the vehicle?
Yes, tied to both. Shopmonkey's product pages say inspection history stays with every customer and vehicle, its mobile app documentation describes marked-up photos and video added to inspection items and calls out documenting pre-existing vehicle damage as a reason to do it, and its help centre documents sharing an inspection with the customer as a PDF plus a live link. So the storage is there and the intent is there. What no page describes is anything reading the stored media: no comparison of one visit's photos with the next, no check on an item somebody marked Passed, no condition report assembled from what the images show rather than from what was typed. That is not a shortcoming in a shop management system, it is a different job. It is the job RapidEye does, on the photos your technicians are taking anyway.
Shopmonkey integration FAQ
Does RapidEye integrate with Shopmonkey?
Yes. RapidEye reads the photos and video attached to the items on a Shopmonkey inspection, along with the vehicle and the work order they hang off, and returns a finding for each thing it sees: where on the vehicle, what kind of condition, how bad it looks, and the image or video frame it came from. Nothing in Shopmonkey is edited. The inspection, its statuses, the notes your technician typed and the copy the customer receives all stay as your team left them.
Can RapidEye read a Shopmonkey check-in inspection?
Yes, and that is the highest-value inspection on the list. Shopmonkey's help centre describes inspections being used as standard check-in and check-out inspections so the customer's vehicle is documented on both entry and exit. RapidEye reads the check-in set as a record of the vehicle as it arrived, so a mark that shows up later can be placed on one side of that line or the other.
What file types can RapidEye read from a Shopmonkey inspection?
The ones Shopmonkey accepts. Its help centre documentation lists jpeg, png, PDF and mp4 uploads on an inspection item, up to 50 MB per file, and photos and video captured straight from the camera in the Shopmonkey for Techs mobile app. RapidEye reads the photos and the video, including the frames of a walkaround clip that nobody watches to the end.
Will RapidEye change an inspection, a work order or an invoice in Shopmonkey?
No. Shopmonkey stays the system of record. RapidEye does not set an inspection status, add an item, alter an estimate or send anything to a customer. It reads and reports back, and your service writer decides what becomes a recommendation.
What about the items a technician marks Passed?
Passed is where the risk sits. A green checkmark is a person's judgement, and it usually travels without a photo, so nobody can go back and look at it. Where you want a passed item to carry evidence, RapidEye can read the photos your technicians already attach, and a capture link can add a fixed set of angles of the vehicle from any phone with no app to install.
Does this help with a damage dispute?
It is the main reason shops connect it. The argument is almost never about whether a car has a dent, it is about when the dent appeared. RapidEye keeps every inspection's media against the vehicle, so the check-in photos from this visit and from the four visits before it are one dated record, and the answer is an image rather than a memory.
