AI inspections for Tekmetric

RapidEye reads the photos and videos your technicians attach to a Digital Vehicle Inspection in the Tekmetric Mobile App, and tells you what is new on the car since the last time it was in your bay.

How a Tekmetric DVI works

Overview

A completed Tekmetric DVI is a record of what a technician rated and photographed; it is not a record of anyone reading those photos afterwards. The inspection carries the vehicle, the repair order, the tasks in their groups, a rating on each task, findings from your preset list or typed by hand, and whatever photos, videos and PDFs were attached from the phone. Those attachments go to the customer to earn an approval, and then they sit in the vehicle's history. RapidEye reads them: the current inspection against every earlier inspection of the same vehicle, and every panel and bay in the frame, not just the task the technician was pointed at.

Every DVI, not the disputed onesEach inspection marked complete is read on the day it happens, whether the shop turns eight cars or eighty.
New damage told apart from oldToday's photo of a panel beside the one from the last visit, so a scuff has a date on it before anyone argues.
Tekmetric stays the recordNo repair order, inspection, rating, finding or canned job is touched. RapidEye reads and reports back.

How it works with Tekmetric

Tekmetric builds the whole job around the repair order, and the inspection is the second tab on it. The checks follow the same shape, because every part of a DVI is a place where a camera already comes out.

  • The intake walkaround. The photos taken when the car arrives are the only proof of the condition it arrived in. RapidEye reads them against the vehicle's earlier inspections and reports what is new: a curbed wheel, a cracked lens, a fresh dent in the quarter panel. If the customer comes back in three weeks about a scratch, the answer is a dated photo rather than a memory of the drop-off.
  • The inspection tasks themselves. A technician rates a task and attaches a photo of what they found. RapidEye reads the photo, not the rating, so a brake photo that shows more wear than the rating suggests, or a leak visible at the edge of a suspension shot, comes back as a finding on that repair order.
  • What is in the frame but not on the list. Inspection templates are finite; a photo is not. An underbody shot taken for an oil leak also shows a torn boot and a rusted heat shield. Those are the findings a shop discovers a year later, and they are the ones your customer would rather hear about now.
  • Videos and markup. Tekmetric lets a technician record video and draw on a photo with arrows, circles and text before it goes to the customer. RapidEye reads the video the same way it reads a still, and it never overwrites your markup; the annotated image that customers see is untouched.
  • The inspections that were rushed. When a DVI comes back with tasks rated and nothing photographed, or with the same three frames on every car, that pattern is a finding of its own. Nobody has to go pull ten repair orders to notice it.

A finding names the vehicle and the repair order, the spot on the car, the kind of problem, how serious it is, the earlier photo next to today's, and a suggested next step. It lands in the RapidEye dashboard, and in a Slack channel or an inbox for the service advisor if you want it there. What happens in Tekmetric is your call: a technician concern, a job added to the estimate, a photo pulled into the customer's report.Photos are simply the first input; video and scans follow. Shops that would rather film a walkaround than shoot stills, or that want findings scored against an inspection standard of their own, get that set up with us on the first call.

How to connect Tekmetric to RapidEye

  1. An inspection on every repair order. In Tekmetric, go to Settings and then Inspection Templates, and set the inspection you run on most cars as Default so it is added to every new repair order. Whatever groups and tasks you have built stay exactly as they are.
  2. Photos and video on the inspection tasks. Your technicians attach them from the Tekmetric Mobile App the way they do today, and that is what RapidEye reads. If your shop does not photograph the walkaround at intake yet, a RapidEye capture link covers it: any phone, nothing to install, a fixed set of angles around the car before it goes on the lift.
  3. Add RapidEye as an employee. In Tekmetric, go to Employees and then Add Employee, and add Rapid Eye with the email in the Connect box below. That is the whole setup; the modal has the details.

What a Tekmetric DVI actually holds

Checked against Tekmetric's help centre, September 2026.

Tekmetric is a cloud shop management system for independent repair shops, and the digital vehicle inspection lives inside the repair order rather than beside it. According to Tekmetric's help centre documentation (tekmetric.com), an inspection is added to a repair order from its Inspections tab, a technician is assigned to it, and the technician works it from the Tekmetric Mobile App, where the job board filters automatically to the work assigned to them. Inspections are built in Settings as templates: a title, one or more inspection groups such as Exterior, Brakes or Under Vehicle, and as many tasks inside each group as the shop wants. Findings can be preset per task or typed as custom text, and canned jobs can be tied to findings so the recommended service lands on the repair order when the technician marks the DVI complete.

The heart of it is the rating. Every task takes one of four, and the two in the middle are what the shop lives on.

Check & OkaygreenThe technician looked and found nothing. Nothing goes to the estimate, and nothing gets photographed, which makes it the rating a rushed inspection defaults to.
May Require Attention SoonyellowTekmetric prompts the inspector to report the item once the inspection is saved, and the item carries into the estimate tab under technician concerns.
Requires Immediate AttentionredSame prompt, higher urgency. Red and yellow items are the ones the service advisor builds the repair plan from.
Not ApplicablegreyTekmetric recommends it as positive confirmation to the customer that the inspection was fully completed; a task left unrated shows to the customer as Incomplete.

The four ratings and what each does downstream, as documented by Tekmetric. A rating is a judgement; the attachment beside it is the evidence.

How the media gets onto an inspection

Task by task. Tekmetric's documentation describes a camera icon, a video icon and a PDF icon on each row: on a phone or tablet they open the camera or the photo library, on a desktop the file browser, and there is no cap on the PDFs attached per finding. A photo can then be edited with the markup tools, circles, arrows, text and rotation, from either the desktop or the mobile app, and the annotated version is what appears in the customer's Inspection Report. Videos cannot be marked up. A progress bar shows how much of the inspection has been rated, and once the technician saves and marks it complete, the clipboard icon on the job board turns from grey to green, which is how a shop sees at a glance which cars still owe an inspection.

Does anything in Tekmetric look at the inspection photos?

People do, and they are the right people for the job they are doing. The customer sees the images in the Vehicle Health Report and approves work from them, the service advisor works the red and yellow items into the estimate, and Tekmetric's Inspection Report measures the shape of the inspection process: completion rate, average inspection time, average findings, average attachment count against average repair order and close ratio, grouped by technician or service writer. That is a genuinely useful view of whether inspections are happening well. What none of it does is open the pictures and say what is in them, which is a different job and the one nobody in a shop has time for. Tekmetric also keeps a vehicle's full history on its master profile, searchable by plate or VIN across owners, so the same car has been photographed before. RapidEye is the part that puts today's frames next to the old ones and tells you what changed.

Tekmetric integration FAQ

Does RapidEye integrate with Tekmetric?

Yes. RapidEye reads the photos and videos your technicians attach to inspection tasks in Tekmetric, along with the vehicle, the repair order and the date, and returns a finding for every DVI marked complete: what is damaged, what changed since the vehicle was last in, and what the photos do not cover. Your inspection templates, ratings, findings, canned jobs and repair orders stay exactly as they are. RapidEye writes nothing to Tekmetric.

Can RapidEye tell whether damage was already on the car at drop-off?

That is the main thing it does. Tekmetric keeps a vehicle's inspection history on its master profile, so the same bumper, wheel and rocker panel have been photographed on earlier visits. RapidEye compares today's inspection photos against that history and says whether a scuff is new since the last visit or was in the frame the last time the car was on your lift, with both photos side by side.

Does RapidEye read Tekmetric inspection videos as well as photos?

Yes. Tekmetric lets a technician attach photos, videos and PDFs to an inspection task, and video is the richer input: a walkaround clip covers spots a technician would never think to photograph. RapidEye reads the video frame by frame and reports what it finds in the same format as a photo finding.

Will RapidEye change a repair order or an inspection in Tekmetric?

No. Tekmetric stays the system of record for the repair order, the inspection, the ratings, the findings and the canned jobs they map to. RapidEye reads and reports. What you do with a finding, whether that is a technician concern, a photo added to the customer's report or a conversation before the car leaves, is yours.

Is this useful for a two-bay shop, or only a multi-shop group?

Both, for different reasons. A two-bay shop has one owner who cannot stand behind every inspection and still write estimates, so RapidEye is the second set of eyes on each DVI. A group running Tekmetric Multi-Shop gets the same read applied identically at every location, so an inspection in one store means the same thing as an inspection in another.

Other shop platforms that collect inspection photos

Each of these puts a camera in the technician's hand during the inspection; RapidEye reads whatever comes back.
