How an audit question is built

Overview

EHS Insight is unusually good at getting the photo onto the right question; what it cannot do is give you the hours to look at all of them. The Audit Management module carries the question set into the field on a phone, holds the photo, the comment and the signature against the answer, tracks the corrective action that follows, and prints the whole thing as a report. Every image in there is already stamped with a site, an area and a date, which is exactly the shape a second reader needs. RapidEye is that second reader: it takes the photos on your audits, inspections and work observations and returns a finding per issue, with the earlier photo of that same area beside the new one.

How it works with EHS Insight

EHS Insight organizes work by module, so the integration does too. Wherever a module collects an image, RapidEye reads it and files what it finds under the area the image came from.

Audit Management. The photo attached to a question is checked against the answer beside it and against the area's baseline. A question about machine guarding is answered yes; the frame also holds a missing floor marking and a cable across a walkway, and both come back as their own findings.
Field inspections on the mobile app. Offline capture means the photos from the far end of a site arrive complete, hours after they were taken. They are read on arrival, not when somebody next opens the record.
Work observations. Safe and unsafe conditions, safety violations, great catches, management site visits and near misses, including the ones a contractor submits anonymously through a QR code. A photo on any of them is read the same way as an audit photo.
Repeat findings and housekeeping. A leak that keeps reappearing under one fitting, a stockroom aisle narrowing across four audits, a sign that faded out of legibility. Slow change is what a baseline catches and a memory does not.
Multi-site programs. One eye across every plant, so the site with the meticulous auditor and the site with the busy one are read to the same standard.

A finding names the site and the area, where in the frame the issue sits, its type, how serious it looks, the earlier photo beside the new one, and a suggested next step. Findings land in the RapidEye dashboard, and in an inbox or a Slack channel for the safety team if that is where they will be seen; whether one becomes a corrective action is decided by your team, in EHS Insight. And if your evidence is not a still photo, a walkthrough video or a scan of a plant area reads the same way, as does an inspection format you designed yourself, which we set up with you.

How to connect EHS Insight to RapidEye

Choose the question sets and the sites. Which audit and inspection question sets carry the photos worth reading, and which sites go first. RapidEye works per area: a line, a yard, a stockroom, a lab.
Keep photos on the questions that matter. EHS Insight's form designer can make a photo a required field on a question, so the images arrive on their own. Where a site has no photo questions yet, a RapidEye capture link opens on any phone with no app to install, for a fixed set of angles per area.
Set up read access. Tell us the account and we arrange read access with your administrator on a short call. Auditors keep using the EHS Insight mobile app exactly as they do now.

What an EHS Insight audit question actually holds

EHS Insight, from StarTex Software, is a modular EHS platform: audit management, incident management, compliance, training, chemicals, claims and work observations, with a mobile app on iOS and Android. According to EHS Insight's product documentation (ehsinsight.com), the Audit Management module centralizes audits, inspections and assessments in one place, replacing paper, spreadsheets and email, and its forms are built from question sets with flexible question types, guidance content, and required fields such as photos, attachments and signatures. That last clause is the interesting one, and it is worth drawing.

A finding on a question triggers a corrective action that is assigned and tracked to completion, and the module's reports pull results, notes, corrective actions and photos together for a site or a period.

The reason EHS Insight puts a required-photo field on a question is stated plainly in its own material: adding photos, comments and documents while performing the audit means nobody is later deciphering handwriting or wondering where a photo was taken. That is good practice and it solves the provenance problem, which is the hard half. It also means a mid-size manufacturer running monthly walkdowns at a dozen sites accumulates thousands of well-labelled images a year.

Who reads the photos after the audit is closed?

Usually nobody, and that is a workload fact rather than a product one. A photo on a question is read once, by the person who took it, in the second before they picked an answer. It is then read again only if a report goes out or an incident sends someone back through the file. EHS Insight's Copilot AI works on the data quality and trends in your reporting; the images themselves stay evidence, sitting where they were attached.

RapidEye reads them. Every photo on every submitted audit, inspection and observation, against a baseline built from what that area looked like on earlier audits, so the hazard that was in the frame but not in the question still turns into something somebody can act on. The audit stays the audit. The photos stop being a filing cabinet.

Yes. RapidEye reads the photos your team attaches while performing an audit or inspection in EHS Insight, and the ones on work observations, along with the site, the area and the date. It returns a finding per issue, with the earlier photo of that area beside the new one. Your question sets, corrective actions and reports in EHS Insight are unchanged.

Does EHS Insight let you attach photos to an audit?

Yes. EHS Insight documents adding photos, comments and other documents while performing an audit or inspection, and its form designer can make a photo a required field on a question alongside attachments and signatures. Its reports pull notes, corrective actions and photos together in one click. That is what makes the photo layer straightforward here: the images are already attached to the right question, at the right site, on the right date.

What does RapidEye read that a person answering the question does not?

The rest of the frame, and the same frame from last quarter. An auditor photographs what the question asks about and answers that question. RapidEye reads the whole image against a baseline for that area, so a blocked panel behind the subject, a drum losing its label, or four months of a storage aisle filling up comes back as its own finding.

Does this cover work observations too?

Yes. The Work Observations module carries safe and unsafe conditions, safety violations, great catches, management site visits and near misses, including submissions made through a QR code. Photos on any of those are read the same way as audit photos and tied to the area they came from.

Will RapidEye change our audits or corrective actions?

No. EHS Insight stays the record: the question sets, the audit results, the CAPAs, the reports. RapidEye reads and reports into its own dashboard, and your safety team decides whether a finding becomes a corrective action in EHS Insight.

Can it start from audits we have already completed?

Yes. The photos on your past audits are what the baseline for each area is built from: what that line, that yard, that stockroom looks like when nothing is wrong. Drift is then measured against that rather than against what somebody remembers of the last walk.
